Electrocardiography

Advanced Clinical Electrocardiography

Seminar Overview:

A strong conceptual framework will be used to explore the major ECG abnormalities and how they vary when complicated by additional cardiac disease. The format will be to establish the normal appearance of the major abnormalities and then demonstrate ECG variation from these norms when additional abnormalities occur. For example, the normal appearance of Right Bundle Branch Block is established, then ECGs are worked through with RBBB plus ischaemia, infarct, hemiblocks, pericarditis, ventricular hypertrophy.
Topics include: Hypertrophy and Infarction – the normal hypertrophic and infarction patterns, cardiomyopathies, AMI (new and old, new on old), the less obvious infarct, acute and chronic cor pulmonale; Disorders of Conduction – Bundle Branch Blocks, The Hemiblocks, The Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, VT vs aberrancy; Disorders of Heart Position – dextrocardia, mesocardia and Metabolic Abnormalities - electrolyte imbalance, drug effects and overdose.
